Urban Immersion Outreach Ministry

Nothing impacts the spiritual and vocational lives of people like hands-on ministry through a mission and service experience.

Last year, Immanuel Bible Church’s Urban Immersion and Outreach Ministry, teamed with the Center for Student Missions, (www.csm.org) sent a variety of groups, with over 50 individuals participating, to serve at various local ministries and helping organizations that are reaching out to the poor and needy of Washington, D.C.

The vision and purpose of the Urban Immersion and Outreach ministry is to provide individuals an opportunity to be immersed in Washington, D.C. in a completely new and challenging way – to see and experience the needs in the community around them. The goal is to motivate these individuals to a commitment of ongoing service ministry as a part of their life in Christ. J.T. Walker called this “service evangelism” and sought to have groups from IBC see where they could join God at work in their community. Washington, D.C. is a tremendous mission field where the love of God is greatly needed.

Center for Student Missions (CSM) hosted these trips to provide a wide array of service and ministry opportunities to the groups. CSM, established in 1988, blends a passion for the city with a heart for the groups who come to serve. It is mission and service at its best. CSM is currently working with the Immanuel to host several trips throughout this year, as well as helping us expand our involvement with one-day events to provide continuing support as needs arise in the city. This is allowing regular Immanuel participants the opportunity to build relationships with those they serve at these various ministry sites as they visit them on a regular basis.

The Urban Immersion and Outreach Ministry, in the end, is about leaving our comfort zones to comfort others. The goal of this journey is to build a bridge with the city and to see where we can fill a need, one person at a time. We are called to do what we can with what we have - to love others wherever there is a need and wherever God calls us.

Immanuel's Outreach Ministry has many opportunities for you to serve those in need this year. if you'd like to be on our e-mail distribution to receive advance notification of ongoing events and needs, please contact deedeecollins@verizon.net.
