Central Union Mission Comes to Immanuel
July 6th, during the 9:30 worship hour, the Ambassadors Adult Bible Fellowship will host a recent graduate of the CUM Spiritual Transformation Program, Derrick, where he will provide a testimony as to God's work in his life and what the Mission has done for him. Our May 2008 Urban Immersion Team met and prayed with Derrick while we were in the city. It's a powerful message of God's provision and it celebrates the great work of CUM as well! David Treadwell, Executive Director of CUM, will be on hand as well.
If you are interested in coming to hear Derrick's story, or have any questions, please feel free to contact my co-leader for IBC's Urban Immersion, Don Woodall, at don.woodall@verizon.net.
Support Camp Bennett
Every summer for seven weeks Central Union Mission provides a camp experience to underprivileged children in Olney, Maryland. We need your help in two ways this summer:
- The camp needs volunteers! Consider going up for an afternoon to help clean up after lunch, 1–3pm. You can also go for the whole day and help with the various activities. This is a great summer "field trip" as a family. Contact Sarah Spinler, Volunteer Coordinator of Central Union Mission, sspinler@missiondc.org to volunteer.
- Consider donating a new sports ball. In support of our "Faith in Action" series in the book of James, we're collecting 600 sports balls. We plan to give a new sports ball to each camper this summer! The wire basket for donations is in the Glass Breezeway at Immanuel or you can give them to me to deliver to the church for you!
Grace Ministries in Arlington provides a monthly outreach to immigrants in Northern Virginia. Volunteers help unload food supply trucks from the Food Bank on Friday and bag groceries, 9:30am–3pm. Volunteers can also attend the worship service and help with food distribution on Saturday morning, 8–10:30am. Children of all ages are welcome to participate.
Friday, July 18, and Saturday, July 19
