| What is MOPS? |
MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. That is exactly what we are: moms with kids from pregnancy through kindergarten who want to encourage, nurture, and refresh one another. MOPS is a resource for information on mommy-hood and a wonderful network for building relationships with other moms.
What do we do at MOPS Meeting?
We have delightful fellowship, great food, inspiring speakers and encouraging small group table discussions. We have a wide range of ages, backgrounds, lifestyles, and children, but we share a desire to be the best moms we can be. Our speakers and our mentors are top-notch women who recognize how important the years from infancy through kindergarten are for children and their moms.
We also have special activities throughout the year for moms and their young ones, helping to tie the heart-strings between parent and child while you build relationships with other moms. You can learn more by visiting the Activities page.
When and where do we meet?
Immanuel Bible Church’s MOPS group meets one Monday a month in the evening, throughout the school year (September–May). We typically meet on the second Monday of the month, but when this conflicts with a holiday (such as Columbus Day in October), it moves to the third Monday. Check the calendar on the Meeting page for exact dates.
We meet in the Terrace Rooms at Immanuel and our meetings run from 7pm–9pm. Because we meet at night, we do not offer childcare during our meetings; although moms of nursing babies or newborns are welcome to bring them. We encourage moms to use these two hours a month as a time away from children and to share experiences with other moms.
Click for directions to our church. When you arrive at church, look for the MOPS signs, directing you to the back of the building, where the Terrace Rooms are located.
We follow the Fairfax County School Schedule for delays and closures - if their schools are closed (or close early), our evening meeting will be cancelled.
How much does MOPS cost?
To register for the year, the cost is $40, which includes a multitude of helpful items, including: a bi-monthly subscription to the MomSense Magazine, a wall calendar to help keep organized, and MOPS e-mails for encouraging words of advice. By registering for the year with a MOPS membership, you can also avoid the sign-in table on meeting nights, which can get a little busy. Another option is to pay $5 per meeting at the registration table.
To register for MOPS, you can avoid long lines at the meeting and register online, or sign-up at your first meeting.
If you are new to MOPS , your first visit is free and we hope you come back again!
What else do we do?
In addition to our monthly meetings, we host two activities each month. One is a kid-oriented activity (like visiting a pumpkin patch) and one is a mom-only event, to give moms a chance to interact without the kids. Check out our Activities page to see what we have planned.
MOPS International
Our group is just one chapter in an international organization. MOPS International exists to meet the needs of every mom - urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms - moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be! MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy through kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs.
MOPS helps moms through relationships established in the context of local groups that provide a caring atmosphere for today's mother of young children. MOPS also encourages and supports moms through resources such as books, this Web site, the MOMSense Radio Program and MOPS International Membership.
You can learn more about MOPS, and find many great resources on their website by visiting www.mops.org.
